The Commander, Joint Task Force (JTF) on Niger-Delta, Brigadier-General Navem Rimtip, on Tuesday pleaded with militants to discard violence and embrace peace if they want to be useful to the society.

He made the plea while addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta State, stressing that it is only in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility the region can be better off as persons and organizations will be happy to invest in the area.

Rimtip, who also lauded journalists for their cooperation in the coverage of the JTF activities, however, pleaded with newsmen to continue to work closely with the organization in its effort to bring peace and security to the war-torn area.
'I plead with you (newsmen) to encourage both local and foreign investors to come and invest in the area. What you write on the pages of newspaper carries a lot of weight so, help build the area,' Rimtip further urged newsmen.

He also enjoined illegal oil bunkerers to discontinue their nefarious act and chart a new course of life as the military team will continue to uproot them effortlessly.
The JTF commander explained that the illegal bunkerers arrested in the early hours of December 29, 2008 had run aground because of the shallowness of the river, assuring that both the Ghanaians and Nigerian collaborators will soon arrive the NPA Water-Ways Warri.

On his projection in 2009, Rimtip believed that the incoming year will hold a brighter future for Nigerians, adding that more people will be gainfully employed, while peace will be sustained in all fields of endeavour.
'However, I urged both the militants and illegal oil bunkerers to drop their guns and other negative activities and take up legitimate business that will better their lots and the society,' counseled the JTF boss.
