Wife of an Enugu-based businessman, Mrs Slyvia Nnubia whose husband is being detained in connection with the recent kidnap of Mr Anayo Edemobi, the younger brother to Prof. Dora Akunyili, the Minister of Information and Communication has accused the Enugu State Police Command of complicity in the case.

Chief Ignatius Nnubia and some of his workers comprising police officers, security guards, drivers and domestic staff are being detained in connection with the kidnap, but Mrs. Nnubia has vouched their innocence describing their alleged involvement as blackmail.
In a press statement made available to Daily Sun, she described as "blackmail" confessional statements of the night guard working at Conoil in Enugu named Ali Mohammed arrested by the police on December 4 over the incident where he implicated her husband.
Mohammed had alleged that he was working in concert with other people to kidnap persons and hijack trucks with petroleum products with the alleged backing and support of Nnubia among others.
Following the statement, police had raided the home of the Nnubia in Enugu where Sylvia was arrested with her aides and was only released after her husband Ignatius, said to have traveled out of town on business trip returned to the country and reported to police where he was arrested and has remained in detention since then
She stated that the police were in the know about a two-man gang who specialized as kingpins of kidnap saga in the South East, and who by evidences that led to the rescue of Edemobi played prominent roles in the issue.
She stated that they had actually made withdrawal from a bank in Enugu of a huge sums of money which could be traceable to the incident, adding that the withdrawal was made from a bank account of a relation of the captive by the kingpins.
Mrs Nnubia therefore, expect the Police to focus attention on this, "instead of the observed intentional rigmarole, reluctance and shoddy investigations on the case', adding that with these clear information it would be unfair for the police to believe the statement of the night guard.
According to her, the night guard, who roped the Nnubia family, staff and companies as well as two mobile policemen assigned to their filling station into the saga has remained a lone voice in the story and allegation against his benefactors.
She added that her husband was not relating with the night guards on individual basis since there were supervisors for each of the departments of the companies.
She said the allegation against her husband was absolutely false as according to her Nnubia has been involved in legal businesses and a key player in the distribution and marketing of petroleum products in the country for about 30 years".
