President Umaru Yar'Adua on Tuesday appointed former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ufot Ekaette, the head of the newly created Niger Delta Ministry along with a new finance chief, his office said.
President Umaru Yar'Adua on Tuesday appointed former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ufot Ekaette, the head of the newly created Niger Delta Ministry along with a new finance chief, his office said.
Yar'Adua named Mansur Muktar of the African Development Bank as finance minister replacing Shamsudeen Usman, now at planning.
He appointed Ekaette, from Akwa Ibom State, to head the ministry which is supposed to help pacify and develop Nigeria's restive oil region.
Ekaette served as Secretary to the Federal Government under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The Nigerian president also appointed former Imo State governor, Achike Udenwa, as minister of commerce and industry, and Rilwan Babalola, a civil servant, as minister of power.
'I have the confidence that the four of you will do your best to contribute to ensure that we work towards the accomplishment of our vision,' Yar'Adua said after the ceremony
