Day Adeboye Wept For Prisoners

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, yesterday, narrated how he wept for prisoners at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, on his first visit to the prison in 1975.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, yesterday, narrated how he wept for prisoners at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, on his first visit to the prison in 1975.

He recounted this at the ongoing Holy Ghost Congress, holding at the church Congress Arena, Redemption city. The man of God said he was embarrassed when the senior pastor he went with told him to pray a prayer of thanksgiving for the prisoners.

'What will I be thanking God for, is it for making these people prisoners or what?' he said he muttered to himself.

He further told the teeming congregation that he wept when a prisoner who was asked to pray said, 'Father we pray that you grant the people who came from the city journey mercy back home and God, as we go back to our cells, please don't forget us.'

‘Daddy G. O.', as he is being called by his numerous followers, further said that the worst thing that can happen to a strong, talented, intelligent man, is to be imprisoned.

He said a lot of people who think they are free because they are not in prison custody are in serious prison. According to him, 'Some are imprisoned by sickness, some are in serious captivity, while some are in serious mental problem.'

Speaking on the topic, ‘Joy of the Free', he drew inference from the lame man in Acts of the Apostles, chapter 3: 1-9. He said the man was not only born lame but had to be on the same spot for 40 years until he met the King of kings (Jesus) who restored his freedom.

He told the teeming congregation that freedom is never complete until the oppressor is dead. 'The greatest enemy confronting man is self,' he said. He assured as many who are ready among the congregation to live a holy life and focus on God alone of their freedom.

The man of God later announced that as at 8.30p.m. on day three of the programme, 12 babies had been born with boys having the upper hand. Meanwhile, popular Black American gospel televangelist, Ron Kenoly, thrilled the worshippers at the ongoing Holy Ghost Congress, yesterday.

Kenoly, who is very popular among the lovers of gospel music, was attending the programme for the first time. He sang three of his popular tracks to their admiration. He rendered ‘Righteousness, Peace and Joy' and ‘Halloweth Be Your Name' among others.
