Minister of Information and Communication Mrs Dora Akunyili yesterday attributed her posting to the ministry as the will of God, saying: "I am where God wants me to be."
She said her portfolio was demanding as there are lots to do to redeem Nigeria's image.
Prof. Akuyili was reacting to a question on how Nigerians would see her posting to Information as against Health which many believe is her forte.
"What I will tell them is that posting is approved by God; nothing happens without God's approval. God wants me to be where I am today at this time and He has purpose for where I am today and I can feel it.
"Come to think about it, Nigeria's image needs to some extent to be revived. Image is important because if you don't say you are and if you don't present it in the right way, there are wide-spread misconceptions about what Nigeria and Nigerians are all about all over the world. We may not achieve the seven-point agenda of Mr. President because if people get disinterested in Nigeria because of the negative media we receive they will not come to invest.
"As a matter of fact, the ministry that I occupy now is the soul of the nation. So, I believe that God has put me here at this time to build on what my brother John has done. As I said before, image is the soul of the nation and information is power. Information can be presented in an acceptable way whether positive or negative and I believe that God will give me the skill to present it appropriately so that in few months there will be a positive difference.
"I feel I will succeed with your help. After all, when I went to NAFDAC I did not know anything about NAFDAC, I did not understand the functions of NAFDAC but I was desperate to succeed and in the same way my spirit is strong that together we will lift this country to an imaginable level as long as we are all working hard with sincerity of purpose because you cannot lift the image of a country where people are not prepared to work. It is a good product that you can easily sell".
