Suspended Bayelsa lawmaker begs colleagues

Disturbed by the indefinite suspension slammed on him by the leadership of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, the lawmaker representing Nembe Constituency III, Chief Otobo Noah Opusiri, has appealed for his re-absorption.

Disturbed by the indefinite suspension slammed on him by the leadership of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, the lawmaker representing Nembe Constituency III, Chief Otobo Noah Opusiri, has appealed for his re-absorption.

Opusiri, who was suspended in February alongside five others over their alleged involvement in a plot to impeach Speaker Werinipre Seibarugu, has not been recalled in spite of his written and oral apologies.

Three of them have been recalled, leaving Opusiri and the lawmaker representing Ekeremo Constituency, Hon. Selekeme Ebitu.

Opusiri, who spoke with reporters in Yenagoa, the state capital, appealed to Governor Timipre Sylva to intervene in the matter.

He urged the governor to prevail on the leadership of the Assembly to lift the suspension order on him.

The lawmaker said he regretted his role in the impeachment saga and apologised to the leadership of the Assembly.

He pleaded with Seibarugu and his other colleagues to temper justice with mercy to enable him contribute to the development of the state.

Opusiri lamented that his suspension has denied his constituents effective representation in the Assembly for almost a year.

He appealed to his colleagues to see the crisis as one of those things expected in every lawmaking house, stressing "it was not a personal issue targeted at anybody."
