Mikel faces Siasia’s axe

John Obi Mikel has been warned he will be dropped from Nigeria's squad for the Fifa World Youth Championship.

John Obi Mikel has been warned he will be dropped from Nigeria's squad for the Fifa World Youth Championship.

The highly-rated teenager has been threatened with the axe by coach Samson Siasia if he does not turn up early enough before the tournament begins.

The exact whereabouts of Mikel are currently unknown as he is locked in a bitter transfer dispute regarding his future.
At the end of last month, Mikel agreed a deal to join Manchester United from his current club Lyn but he is now embroiled in a transfer row.

There have been claims Mikel was pressured into signing for The Red Devils, after previously suggesting he wanted to move to Chelsea.
He has recently been staying at a London hotel but is required by his nation for the World Youth Championship in Holland which starts on June 10.

Nigeria's first game is against Brazil on June 12 and coach Siasia has told Mikel to travel to Holland immediately if he wants to be part of the squad.
"If the lad doesn't show up tonight or on Saturday morning he does not get to play at the youth World Cup," Siasia told VG.
"I am building a side for the championship and we can't wait until John Obi Mikel has decided when he wants to come."
