An Agege Grade ‘A' Customary Court has dissolved a 20-year-old marriage due to incompatibility and alleged maltreatment.
Immediately the court president announced the dissolution of the marriage, the respondent, Mr. Jimoh Olaleye, burst into tears and prostrated before his wife to change her mind.
His wife, Kudirat Bakare, who earlier approached the court for the dissolution of the 20-year-old marriage, stood her ground, saying that she was fed up with her husband's bad characters.
According to her, 'My lord, it is very sad to tell you that my husband always disturbed me at the motor park where I sell cooked rice.
'There was a day he threatened to stab me, but for the timely intervention of others, I don't know what would have happened to me that day. Jimoh is a destroyer.'
She insisted that she was fed up with him and appealed to the court to grant her petition. Following this, the respondent appealed to the court to assist him beg his wife not to divorce him, adding that her prayer, if granted, would spell doom for their children.
'I still love my wife and I don't want to divorce her because of our children. I am a very busy man, and if she divorces me it will be a disaster for our children,' he told the court.
In his ruling, the court president, Chief Kolawole Bruce, said since the petitioner had made up her mind to divorce her husband, there was nothing the court could do but to dissolve the union. Jimoh, who could not believe his ears when the judgement was pronounced, burst into tears and prostrated before his wife, begging her to change her mind.
