Tinubu, spoke to journalists at a private terminal at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said, 'If we are talking of shoddy elections, then who handles it? The reason for our problems today revolves around corruption and how do we check this? Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is still very, very young. It is only being headed by those who have experience.

'The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission is still very young relatively; it is also just headed by experienced people. From our experience of various criminal investigations, there are several dimensions to all and the constitution is the protector of individual rights.'

He said there were constitutional mechanisms that could jeopardise the entire democratic process.

On how to tackle corruption, Tinubu suggested exposure.

He said, 'There are allegations that are genuine for example, if you have to remove the immunity clause, how do you go about it? The investigation channel towards that must be thorough and must be from a sincere mind. So maybe you have to find an alternative.'
