No sanction for Joseph Yobo

SUPER Eagles chief coach Shuaibu Amodu shocked his audience in Benin City on Thursday when he revealed that he would not sanction Joseph Yobo for failing to participate in the November 19 international friendly game between Nigeria and Colombia in Cali.

SUPER Eagles chief coach Shuaibu Amodu shocked his audience in Benin City on Thursday when he revealed that he would not sanction Joseph Yobo for failing to participate in the November 19 international friendly game between Nigeria and Colombia in Cali.

Amodu disclosed further that the only reason why he would be able to sanction erring players in the Eagles would be if they were employees of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

'Look my brother, it is the European clubs that provide the money to pay their salaries and their allegiance goes to the clubs first. They must secure their means of livelihood first because national team assignments are one-off or most time held during competitions.

'However, let me also assure you that we are taking note of the trends and I promise Nigerians that by the time we would ready for our first game in March 2009, I would have at least three players to choose from in each position on the field of play.

'Nigeria's 2010 World Cup qualifiers begin with the international friendly game on February 19 2009. But we are monitoring how each player is faring in Europe. I'm talking with their coaches to find out what each of them is doing and of course I call them regularly to ask questions if the need arises,' Amodu said.
