Buhari moral president, while Yar'Adua is legal president - David West

Former Minister of Petroleum, Prof Tam David-West, says that the country's judiciary is on trial.

Former Minister of Petroleum, Prof Tam David-West, says that the country's judiciary is on trial.
Reacting to the Supreme Court's judgment validating the election of President Umar Yar'Adua, David-West said the apex court had done an enormous damage to the president.

The former minister said that although Yar'Adua remains the president, going by the Supreme Court's judgment, former Head of State and presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), General Mohammadu Buhari, was the victor in the electoral dispute.

He said: 'Nigeria is on trial; the Nigeria judiciary is on trial. Today is a very, very sad day. The Supreme Court has done supreme damage to Yar'Adua. Why do I say this? Here is a man, who, after his election, while attending the G-8 meeting in Germany, told the entire world that his election wasn't free and fair !' So he had already passed judgment against himself. How can the Supreme Court say it knows Yar'Adua more than himself? They have done supreme damage to him.
'It is possible that if there is a fresh election Yar'Adua would still win, because the other parties are not organized. By not annulling that terrible election and giving a verdict of 4-3, Buhari is the victor. Right now, Buhari is the moral president of Nigeria, while Yar'Adua has got legal victory.'
