The construction of the proposed 10-lane Lagos-Badagry Expressway will begin before the end of the year, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Francisco Abosede said yesterday. Three contractors have been penciled in to execute the project.

Three contractors have been penciled in to execute the project.
They are among the 10 companies that bid for the job. They are: Chinese Construction Engineering Company (CCEC), Arab Contractors, PW Nig. Ltd, Hi-tech Construction Company Ltd, Moreno Marina Lagoon, Key -Based Ventures, Lekon Engineering Service Ltd, Ugur- B-AS Construction Ltd and Sanju- Sunny Nig Ltd.
Speaking during the presentation of areas of potential of Lagos State as the sixth mega-city of the world to Chinese investors, Abosede said the project would be executed under a World Bank -assisted programme with the government.
The government had indicated interest to reconstruct the 48-year-old expressway through the placement of advertisement for interested bidders.
Abosede said: "Work on the proposed expansion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway will begin by the end of this month. The Lagos State Government is planning to expand the road from the current four lanes to a 10-lane dual carriage expressway with provisions for light rail and Bus Rapid Transit System."
The commissioner said notices had been served on affected property owners, adding that they would be compensated by the government.
He said the government had also directed contractors that submitted quotations for the contract estimated at N220 billion, to complete all arrangements with the state tender board.
