Following the dismal performance of Nigeria at the recently concluded Africa Women Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea, former Super Falcons striker, Mercy Akide-Udoh has reiterated her desire for a competent foreign coach for the country's senior female national team.
Reacting to the team's poor performance during the AWC in Equatorial Guinea, Akide said competent foreign coach is the solution to Falcons technical problem. Although the former CAF Female player of the year reserved huge respect for Nigerian coaches, she, however, called on the authority to hire experienced foreign coach for the Super Falcons' in its pursuit both on the continent and the global scene.
"The unfortunate performance of Nigeria at the last AWC in Equatorial Guinea is a clear indication that the Super Falcons need a foreign coach before the commencement of major tournaments. It is not that I am condemning Nigerian coaches completely, but in this era, we just need a knowledgeable foreign coach to put things in order. Now that we have seen what is going on in the team, the best is to make the right decision that would benefit the team", she said.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee members meet next week on the way forward for Nigerian football. The committee would also decide the fate of Super Falcons coach, Joseph Ladipo among other issues.
