FIFA sets new guidelines on players contracts


Players and clubs can expect an update from the League shortly on Fifa's new minimum standards for football contracts which have been drawn up to ensure that their rights are better respected.

Players and clubs can expect an update from the League shortly on Fifa's new minimum standards for football contracts which have been drawn up to ensure that their rights are better respected.

The governing body of world football said on Wednesday it has informed its 208 member associations of the guidelines covering topics, including legal basics of contracts such as the names of the parties, dates of the agreement and all other disclosure of any agents involved in the negotiations.

The rules also cover players' and clubs' obligations, image rights, how players are loaned, anti-doping regulations, collective bargaining and dispute resolution procedures.

Fifa said the new standards reflect major progress in recent years to improve relations between football clubs and players.
