The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has lifted the ban placed on the Enyimba Stadium, by the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).
The ban on the stadium was handed down in the wake of the violence which followed their home game against Heartland in early November. After playing three games behind closed doors at Ilorin, Enyimba launched an appeal to the NFF, which proved successful.
'We wrote a letter to the NFF to plead our case before them,' Enyimba's Media Officer Tonnex Chukwu told kickoff.com. 'We asked them to consider our case since we have been punished enough and promised that such an incident will never happen again.
Enyimba are now free to play their next home game in Aba but the decision did not go down well with the league body. Enyimba were officially informed about the new state of affairs via a letter signed by NFF Secretary General, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, but the situation has left the NPL unhappy about being left in the dark.
NPL Executive Secretary, Alhassan Yakmut, said there were procedural errors in the process leading to the lifting of the ban. 'We handed down that punishment as an interim measure since the Disciplinary Committee could not meet immediately. It is that committee which has the power to take the final decision on the matter. As I speak to you, the committee has not met as far as I know, and yet a decision has been taken.'
