The lifeless and mutilated body of the traditional ruler was found dumped in the outskirts of the village two days after he was reportedly kidnapped in a hotel premises in Enugu by unknown persons suspected to be assassins.
The late traditional ruler whose coronation took place recently was reportedly bundled away by his assailants amidst tight security, after shooting sporadically into the air to scare passersby away from the scene of the incident.
They reportedly stormed the hotel where the traditional ruler was staying, located him and immediately whisked him away to sn unknown destination.
The killing of Igwe Nwachime has caused tension and panic in the village with some of the villagers reportedly abandoning their houses for fear of being interrogated by law enforcement agents.
A source linked the killing of the paramount ruler to the Igweship tussle in the area, pointing out that the assailants did not remove any of the Igwe's property at the time they stormed the hotel in Enugu.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaizu declined to speak on the matter, as he claimed the news of the Igwe death had not reached him.
