As muslims prepare to celebrate Ed-el-Kabir next week, P.M.News investigations have revealed that many are not buying the sallah ram because of its high cost.
P.M.News checks at the ram market, along Capitol Road, Agege, this morning, showed that the cost of a ram ranges between N7,000 and N70,000, depending on the size. Speaking with P.M.News, Mohammed Auwalu, a ram seller, said although sales is low, definitely it will pick up by the weekend.
According to him, there is a possibility of increment in the price by the weekend. Many who were seen making purchases at the market lamented the high cost compared to what obtained last year.
Alhaji Akadiri Bashiru told P.M.News that slaughtering of sallah ram is compulsory; the reason he had to cough out money to buy one. Apart from ram, prices of other food condiments like pepper and onions, among other things, have also shot up compared to what obtained last month. Marketers attributed the high cost to the sallah celebration and the yuletide, but that the cost may not come down until the new year.
