The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared five officials of the Rivers State Government wanted over the alleged misappropriation of N3.6bn belonging to the state. The affected officials are Mr. Robert Aya, a Permanent Secretary; Mr. Fubara Kingsely Hart, Director of Finance and Administration and Mr. Harrison Princewill. Others are Messrs, Nathan Wike and Bright Ikonwa.
The EFCC disclosed this on Monday in a statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Babafemi. Explaining why the affected officials were declared wanted, Babafemi said that since the Commission began investigating the accounts of Government House in September, the officials had not honoured invitations extended to them.
According to Babafemi, the N3.6bn investigation is the second stage of its probe on strange movement of cash out of the state‘s treasury, adding that it began with the N5bn allegedly found in the account of the Chief of Staff to Government House, for which the commission charged him to court. He said, 'The matter began with the N5bn belonging to the Chief of Staff and that is why we took the matter to court. The second investigation deals with account of Government House.
'Since September, we have been inviting these people but they have been sending other officials that we have not been looking for. That is why we decided to declare them wanted.' The commission called on anybody with useful information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact its offices in Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kano, Lagos, Gombe and Abuja.
