LG Boss To Revive The FESTAC Spirit

The chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, is set to revive the spirit of the Festival of African Culture (FESTAC) that took place in his local government in 1977.

The chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, is set to revive the spirit of the Festival of African Culture (FESTAC) that took place in his local government in 1977.

Addressing newsmen in Festac, Adewale disclosed that the first Amuwo-Odofin carnival will be hosted by the Amuwo Youth Organization (AYO), to resuscitate and propagate the rich but long muffled heritage of the black man.

The LG boss revealed that the carnival would serve as a platform for Amuwo-Odofin youths to exhibit their talents and skills in various areas.

“All over the world, all conscious people with a profound realisation of their history have continued to celebrate their culture, not only as a reminder of where they are coming from, but as a pointer to where they are going,” said the activist turned politician.

The chairman also lamented the deplorable state of amenities at the trade fair complex, adding that the poor and filthy environmental condition of the area was capable of causing an outbreak of epidemic.

He regretted that the local government had been disallowed from collecting official levies as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He also called on the Lagos state government to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy given to the federal government for the usage of the place. He tasked the authorities of the Ojo Military Cantonment to ensure the security of lives and property in the area.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the office of the commandant of the cantonment, Lt. Col. T. A. Apere, Comrade Adewale promised that he would work closely with the officers to ensure security for the residents.
