Tears flowed freely yesterday, at the Church of Resurrection (Anglican Communion), Victoria Island, Lagos, venue of the service of songs held for the slain Chief Operating Officer of Glo Broad Access, Mr. Martins Olusola Olowonihi.

Olowonihi was killed last Friday, when a stray bullet from an encounter between the police and armed robbers, on Victoria Island, hit him on the head. Sympathisers, friends, relatives and staff of Globacom also sang with tearful eyes, at the event.

Wife of the deceased, Modupe, and his two children, Damilola (daughter) and Tamilore (son), were absent at the ceremony. They were said to be living in Jos, Plateau state.

P.M.News gathered that Olowonihi came out from his office on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, on the fateful day to see if he could render help when armed robbers attacked a new generation bank in the area. He was reportedly hit by a stray bullet on the head between the bank and another bank, a few metres away.

He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the area. P.M.News gathered that Olowonihi gave up the ghost minutes after he was transferred to the Ikeja General Hospital. He was said to have suffered a serious brain haemorrhage resulting from the wound to his head. His colleagues described him as humble, humane, kind and soft spoken.

Before his death, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Glo Broad Access, the fixed line arm of Globacom. A brief service of songs was also held for him this morning, at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary, where his corpse is expected to be collected for the last journey to Odolu, Kabba, Kogi state, where he would be buried.

He is survived by a wife, Modupe, and two children. The late Olowonihi, P.M.News gathered, a week ago, hosted friends and colleagues at his hometown in Odolu, Kabba, Kogi state, when he opened his new country home.
