Addressing participants at an international conference on leadership, Pastor Nike Adeyemi, wife of Sam Adeyemi, the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christians Centre, Ikosi, Lagos, declared that she and other women in Nigeria, had decided not to keep quiet any more over assaults by military men against civilians in the country.
Some of the prominent women bent on stopping military oppression in the country include Dr. Joe Odumakin, President, Campaign for Democracy ; Funmi Iyanda, celebrity presenter and Pastor Nike Adeyemi, among others.
Referring to the assault on Uzoma Okere by some naval ratings recently, Pastor Adeyemi said justice must be done to the innocent woman who was beaten and stripped.
She added that though she was never involved in human rights activities in the university, the inhuman treatment of Okere by military men has changed her mind for ever.
'I'm now a human rights activist. We have to begin to act. We should not just remain in the church. We should go out there and act. That is why I urge you to read newspapers. Because papers make you to realize what is happening outside. When you read newspapers, you will have prayer points.
'Enough is enough. Enough of the military men thinking that they are superior to civilians. A military man that has only primary six but when he wears his uniform, he thinks he is superior to a PHD holder,' she said.
