A taskforce in Lagos state, has impounded over 500 Okada and 290 Okada riders for violating governor Babatunde Fashola's restriction order not to operate within a certain period.

A taskforce in Lagos state, has impounded over 500 Okada and 290 Okada riders for violating governor Babatunde Fashola's restriction order not to operate within a certain period.

The taskforce said the motorcycles were impounded in places like Victoria Island and Ikoyi, and have been dumped at the taskforce office, in Alausa. Specifically, 29 motorcycles and their riders were arrested in Ikoyi and Victoria Island last night, by the taskforce.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mrs. Adetayo Asagba, told P.M.News that the motorcycles were impounded around 8 p.m. and 3 a.m., this morning. She said the operation is ongoing and that the Lagos State Police Command was also involved.

Asagba stated that the arrested okada riders would be charged to court and prosecuted and may even forfeit their motorcycles in the process. She said there had been a sensitisation exercise that okada riders should not operate after 7 p.m., on Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Ikeja.

One of the arrested riders, Mr. Karri Sale, said he was arrested around 8 p.m., in Ikoyi and that he did not have a wrist watch to ascertain whether it was 7 p.m. or not. In a related development, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) recently impounded over 70 motorcycles for violating the governor's order.
