There was pandemonium in Mushin, yesterday, as gun-wielding social miscreants, commonly called area boys, and some people suspected to be members of the National Union of Road Tranport Workers (NURTW), were locked in a bloody battle over the control of a park at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) junction, causing the death of one Seyi Fasanya and leaving many others seriously injured.

P.M.News gathered that trouble started on Friday, when the area boys from Agoro Street, clashed with the union officials in a war of supremacy, and continued yesterday, when the social miscreants, employing all sorts of weapons including machetes, axes and firearms, sacked the whole area. Residents were seen running helter skelter, while all shops and markets were shut. However, the fight took a new turn when some area boys, led by one Nuru Alapa, Akeem No Case, Idris Aloma and a host of others, stormed Oloruntosin Street, also in Mushin, terrorising residents before allegedly murdering somebody identified as Seyi Fasanya, a.k.a. Omo Iya Alani, said to be returning from the church, while over 20 cars parked on the street were also allegedly destroyed.

Speaking on the incident, Alhaja Monsurat, a resident of the street, said the crisis had nothing to do with Oloruntosin Street, but the Police and some Army officers, who were there to carry out a raid on some people in their homes.

It was after those people had left, the woman said, that area boys capitalised on the situation to attack innocent people in the area, killing Seyi in the process, while many others that were shot are still in hospital. Meanwhile, residents of Oloruntosin Street have appealed to the commissioner for Environment, Dr. Muiz Banire, a prominent politician from the area, to come to their aid and see to it that justice is done.

P.M. News, however, gathered that the commissioner was at the Mushin council office on Friday, where he appealed to the people to embrace peace and share the allocation given to the council, from the state, accordingly and this was alleged to also be part of what caused the trouble.
