About six days after an Ibadan businessman, Mr. Femi Falegan, was killed by unknown gunmen, a politician, Mr. Olawale Oladoja, yesterday escaped assassination in the city.
Oladoja, a former director of Odu'a Investment Company Limited, was shot by unknown gunmen who visited his Bodija home.
Oladoja is receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency ward of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
The politician, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a supporter of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, said two strange men visited his house while he was away. They parked their motorcycle at the house and went away.
He said while seeking information on the owners of the motorcycle on his arrival, the two men resurfaced and engaged him in a light interaction before one brought out a gun.
His words: "As I opened the gate, I found that there was an Okada (motorcycle) without registration number parked by my gate. On enquiry from a gateman opposite my house, he said two people came on the bicycle a few minutes ago.
"Just then the two men were coming towards me and when I asked from them why they had to park their okada at my gate; one of them said they came to see somebody very close to my house while the other one immediately brought out a gun and asked me to enter the house quietly. We are here to kill you, he said.
"As I was going in, and they sensed that I was trying to be smart because my intention was to quickly go in and bring out my own gun, they fired at me and before I knew what was happening they had rushed out and run away on their Okada."
He fingered an Ibadan businessman as being behind the attack.
He said he had reported the incident at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.
It was gathered that two bullets had been extracted from his body and he would soon undergo another operation to remove more bullets.
