Shehu Musa Laid To Rest In Bida


The remains of the former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Alh. Shehu Musa was yesterday interred in Bida, Niger State. Musa, until his death in a London Hospital on Wednesday, was the Makaman Nupe.

The Chief Imam of Bida, Sheikh Adamu Yakatun led the Janaiza prayers before the departed statesman was buried at Umaru Makama Area of Bida in Niger State, his home town. Sheikh Yakatun prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late Makaman Nupe.

He equally prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the families of the deceased and Etsu Nupe the fortitude to bear the loss. The Imam prayed for the continued peace and progress of Niger State and Nigeria at large. Two former heads of state, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, were among dignitaries that attended the burial. Others included the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alh. Yayale Ahmed, former Information minister, Chief Alex Akinyele, former national chairman of PDP, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, deputy governor of Niger State, Alh. Ahmed Ibeto, speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Alh. Mohammed Alkali, emirs of Kontagora and Kagara as well as Etsu Nupe, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar, Etsu Agaie and Lapai, among other personalities.

Meanwhile, messages of condolence have continued to greet Shehu Musa's death, the latest coming from the secretary to the Government of the federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed.

In his message of condolence, the SGF, described Musa as a man who served both the nation and humanity selflessly.

He added that the late Makaman Nupe, has left indelible marks in the country, both during his days as a public servant, and as a private individual.

Similarly, the Citizens Popular Party (CPP), described Musa's demise as not only shocking but also painful.

The party also expressed sadness over the death of the country's foremost public servant and a politician, at a time when his wise counsel was most needed.

In another sad development, Alh. Dalhatu Sarki, Iyan Nupe, passed on and was buried yesterday according to Islamic rites at Masaba Palace, Bida, Niger State.

The younger brother of the late Usman Sarki, the Iyan Nupe was until his death, the most senior traditional title holder in Masaba Palace.

Among the many dignitaries that attended the burial were the Estu Nupe, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar; the emir of Kontagora, Saidu Namaska; emir of Suleija, Mall. Muhammed Awwal Ibrahim; emir of Agaie, Muhammed Kudu; emir of Lapai, Umaru Bahago, and the emir of Kagara, Salihu Tanko.

Aged over 80, Iyan Nupe is survived by wives and over 100 children and grandchildren.
