Joy Iyaye, a banker was on her way to her place of work during the early hours, when the abductors blocked her car, and drove her away at gun point.

The Spokesman of the Joint Task Force in the state, Col. Musa Sagir who confirmed the incident told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that the identities of the kidnappers have not yet been known. He, however disclosed that contacts had been made with kidnappers. Sagir who described the motive as pecuniary and criminal also explained that security agencies have been alerted to work towards recovering the victim whose whereabout is yet to be ascertained. Col. Sagir also explained that the JTF would work round the clock to secure the release of the wife of the Rivers State Commissioner of Sports as it was not policy of the military joint Task Force to succumb to the tradition of ransom from abductors. He reiterated the commitment of JTF in checkmating activities of criminals in the state. It could be recalled that few days ago, the younger sister of the former Secretary to State Government during the tenure of Governor Celestine Omehia was kidnapped by a group of unknown gunmen. The younger sister, Antonio Podomson, a student of the University of Science and Technology was kidnapped and driven away in her own vehicle. Though, the act is being described as politically motivated, the whereabout of the victim is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
