Two alleged rapists, Sunday Mordi, 25 and Peter Nwachukwu, 23, have been arraigned before the Surulere Chief Magistrate's Court, Lagos, on a three-count charge of rape.
Two alleged rapists, Sunday Mordi, 25 and Peter Nwachukwu, 23, have been arraigned before the Surulere Chief Magistrate's Court, Lagos, on a three-count charge of rape.
They were alleged to have unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a 19-year-old lady (names withheld), after threatening and harassing her at Olaleye Market, Iponri, Lagos, on 29 October. They were also accused of stealing her Nokia handset.
Their offences are contrary to Section 516, 358 and 390 (9) of Criminal Code Cap 17, Vol. II, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Y. O. Aje-Afunwa, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties. The sureties, she ruled, must produce a verifiable addresses here in Lagos, and evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state government.
