Cult attacks, which started last Tuesday, in Lagos, and which has claimed the lives of five persons, took another dimension yesterday, when suspected cultists belonging to the Supreme Eiye Confraternity and the Black Axe Movement clashed at Kekere-Owo Street, in Ilasamaja, leaving two people seriously injured.

The two injured persons were first taken to the palace of the traditional ruler (Baale) of Ilasa, Chief Irokosu Omonigbeyin, and later transferred to the Mushin General Hospital. The Baale immediately reported the incident at the Area ‘D' police station.

The police acted swiftly and stormed Endurance Hotel, the suspected hideout of the cultists, at Kekere-Owo Street. About four of the cultists were arrested and a pump action rifle, several axes and other dangerous weapons were recovered by the police during a search of the hideout.

The death toll in the raging cult war between the Eiye Confraternity and the Buccaneers, in Surulere, has risen to five with the death of 18-year-old Oluwaseun Hassan, an ND II Banking and Finance student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Surulere campus. The killing of Oluwaseun was a reprisal attack following the killing of another student of the institution in the Surulere campus, last week.

Similarly, the cult war raging at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, over the killing of two students of the university by rival gangs, may have spilled over into the streets of Lagos, as rival cult groups in Ebute-Metta, Ketu and FESTAC have started attacking one another.

P.M.News investigations revealed that the attacks were carried out in broad daylight with an open display of firearms and other dangerous weapons. The traditional ruler of Ilasamaja has appealed to the Lagos state governor and the Commissioner of Police to come to his aid, as cultists have sacked residents from their homes.
