A 31-year-old hotel attendant has been sentenced to one year imprisonment, with hard labour, for theft.
The man, Chile Prosper, a staff of Royal Garden Hotel, Ajao Estate, Lagos, was alleged to have stolen N250,000, belonging to the manager of the hotel. He claimed he stole the money to satisfy his girlfriend.
P.M.News learnt that the accused's girlfriend had requested some amount of money and threatened to leave him, if he does not give her the money. Afraid of losing his lover, the culprit stole the manager's quarter of a million naira and fled. He was later arrested by the police and arraigned before an Isolo Magistrate's Court, for stealing.
When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty. The prosecutor, SUPOL John Abu, presented the facts before the court, and the accused confirmed that he indeed stole N250,000 belonging to the manager.
When the magistrate, Mrs. J. Akanni, asked him what he spent the money on, he said part of the money was used to settle his girlfriend, while he spent the rest on himself. The court found him guilty as charged and sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment, with hard labour.
