An armed robbery gang, which specialises in terrorising residents of Abule-Egba, Iyana Ipaja, Sango and its environs, has been smashed by the police.

Two members of the gang, Sunday Akpan and Samson Babatunde, were also arrested. P.M.News gathered that the robbers were arrested by policemen while sharing their loot at their hideout, at Iyana Ipaja.

Items recovered from them include one single barrel gun, four laptops, three mobile phones, assorted bags and their operational Volkswagen bus, with registration number XN 463 JJJ.

P.M.News learnt further that the notorious gang had allegedly killed a man at Oshodi, just before nemesis caught up with them at their hideout.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Frank Mba, the suspects were arrested when they were sharing their loot at their hideout, in Iyana Ipaja.

'This gang specialises in robbing houses with weapons. We arrested them on 9 November, and we recovered one single barrel gun, four laptops, three phones, assorted bags and their operational Volkswagen bus, with registration number XN 463 JJJ from them.'

The police spokesman also confirmed that the suspects killed a man at Oshodi, just before their arrest. According to Samson Babatunde, who claimed to be the driver of the bus used in the robbery operation: 'My job is to take members of the gang to their areas of operation, and I have driven them to three different operations in the past.

'I am a commercial bus driver. Our recent robbery operation, before our arrest, was at Iyana Ipaja. Before then, we robbed at Oshodi where the leader of our gang, Sunday, killed a man that was coming out of his house in a car.'

Sunday Akpan, however, denied being the leader of the gang. He identified the leader as Fatai and blamed him for the death of a man that was killed at Oshodi.

'Our gang is made up of Fatai, Samson, Idowu and Haruna. Fatai is our leader and he was the one that shot the man at Oshodi. My job is just to survey the houses we are to rob. We usually rob houses at Sango, Abule-Egba and Iyana-Ipaja,' he confessed. P.M.News gathered that the police are currently on the trail of other fleeing members of the gang
