Daniel's Fans Ask Iyabo To Apologise; Egbas Divide

Some elders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun Central Senatorial District, who are known supporters of governor Gbenga Daniel's, have asked Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello to apologise to the governor or be recalled from the Senate.

Some elders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun Central Senatorial District, who are known supporters of governor Gbenga Daniel's, have asked Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello to apologise to the governor or be recalled from the Senate.

In advertisements carried by some national dailies this morning, entitled: 'Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello's despicable act,' the supposed elders, who are mainly aides of the governor, said their attention had been drawn to the unfortunate incident at Ogbomosho, Oyo state 'during which Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello continuously assaulted the Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, as well as his security details.

'The senatorial elders wish to condemn this despicable act in its entirety as it is totally unbecoming of a distinguished member of the Senate.'

The elders catalogued Iyabo's previous offences, saying she had, at the wedding ceremony of her brother, Major Adeboye Obasanjo, embarrassed the governor and his security details. She was also accused of walking out on Daniel when the governor paid the ex-president a courtesy call on 1 October, 2008.

'During the 65th birthday ceremony of the Alake of Egbaland, not only did she refuse to pay the necessary salutation and compliments to the governor during the church service, she went on with this show of shame by trying to insist that the representative of the governor of Ogun state, at the reception, vacate his seat for her, to the embarrassment of all at that function,' the advert read in part.

'We may find no other option than to commence the process of her recall unless she tenders an apology to the governor and the leaders of the party,' they concluded.

Meanwhile, the clash between Daniel and Senator Obasanjo-Bello, has torn top Egba chiefs and political leaders apart. As the two camps returned to Abeokuta on Sunday, after the show of shame at the wedding ceremony of governor Alao-Akala's daughter, in Ogbomosho, Egba indigenes were said to have pitched camps on either sides.

Some prominent Egba chiefs who spoke with P.M.News begged for anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the development, saying neither the governor nor the Senator was tolerant enough to listen to the truth. The chiefs and political leaders said 'if the trend of the political crisis in Ogun state is not quickly checked and nipped in the bud, it could erupt like a volcano.

An Egba high chief, who spoke under anonymity, blamed the political crisis in the state on the governor's alleged intolerance, saying he had clashed with other opponents in the same manner, in the past.

He cited the governor's confrontation with Senator Ibikunle Amosu, Otunba Dipo Dina and Chief (Mrs.) Iyabo Anisulowo among others, asking 'why is the governor fighting everybody in the state?'
