The police, at Olodi-Apapa, Lagos state, have launched a manhunt for a businessman who allegedly beat his pregnant wife to death.
The suspect, identified as Benedict, resides at 139, Muyibi Street, Olodi-Apapa. Police sources confirmed to P.M.News that the suspect, who is currently on the run, beat his pregnant wife to death during a major disagreement, at the weekend.
They were said to have attended a wake in the evening of Saturday, but the man stayed back to talk to a female friend. The pregnant woman, P.M.News gathered, challenged her husband at home for staying too long at the wake. This did not go down well with the man who assaulted her.
Fighting reportedly ensued, during which the man battered his wife. Commenting on the incident, a resident of the building, who craved anonymity, confirmed that the victim and her husband fought that fateful night and he heard the woman screaming for help.
When P.M.News met the suspect before he eventually fled, he admitted that he had a quarrel with his wife before she died, but that he did not kill her. According to him, he came back from a wake that night and his wife accused him of coming home late. After a heated argument, he went out, but his son later rushed out to inform him that his mother was vomiting.
'I rushed her to a nearby clinic where it was discovered that she had internal bleeding and she was referred to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where she died,' he stated. Policemen, at the Trinity police station, confirmed the incident.
