Detectives, at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested three men who vandalise petroleum pipelines and siphon fuel at Ilase village, in Lagos state.
Those arrested include Tajudeen Bello, a resident of Ilase village, and the ‘engineer' who drills holes in the pipelines. Others are Tunde Akindele, who resides at Ibode village, and Saidu Jinadu, their 56-year-old security man, who keeps watch for them while they perpetrate their crime. He resides at Okun Agun area of Ilase village.
The suspects were arrested with two thousand 50-litre jerry cans and a trailer loaded with 33,000 jerry cans. The jerry cans and the trailer were impounded and handed over to the NNPC management at Atlas Cove, Apapa.
In his confession to the police, the ring leader, Tajudeen Bello, confessed that they had been in the business for long. 'We have been arrested several times by the police, but we normally bribe our way out. Now that our instruments have been seized by the police, I promise to change and look for a decent job.' The suspects are currently being detained at Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
