Despite Oshiomhole's victory, Zakawanu remains Speaker - Ogbemudia


Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT) member, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia has said the judicial declaration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as Governor of Edo State will not make the position of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Garuba Zakawanu, Shaky.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT) member, Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia has said the judicial declaration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as Governor of Edo State will not make the position of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Garuba Zakawanu, Shaky.

Both the Governor and the Speaker, who belong to the Action Congress (AC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively, come from the same senatorial Zone -Edo North.

In the 24-member State Assembly, AC has eight members while PDP has 14 members.

The delicate political zoning in the state has been affected by last Tuesday's judgment of the Appeal Court which upheld a lower tribunal's decision that Oshiomhole won the April 14, 2007 governorship poll in the state.

Speaking to The Nation, Dr. Ogbemudia, who is a chieftain of the PDP in the state, said: "First and foremost, we openly and with our conscience fully selected Garuba Zakawanu as our Speaker; Oshiomhole coming from the North is an accident. So we should not punish him (Zakawanu) because of that…"
