But for the swift intervention of policemen from Igando, a security guard, who allegedly killed a footballer with the Julius Berger team, would have been killed by irate youths, in Akesan, a suburb of Lagos.

The player, Danjuma Ibrahim, was alleged to have been shot dead by a security man, identified as Musibau Jimoh, at the weekend, when he was going for training.

P.M.News gathered that when the suspect discovered that it was Danjuma that he shot, he quickly ran to the victim's landlord who is also the chairman of the vigilance group in the area, to report the incident. The victim was immediately rushed to the Ikeja General Hospital, where he later died.

News of the footballer's death spread like wild fire in the area and some football lovers mobilised and attacked security men in the area. It was learnt that the Baale of the area immediately contacted the police who raced to the scene and calmed them down, while the security man who shot the footballer was arrested and detained at the Igando Police Station.

When P.M.News visited the station, the DPO was not around to confirm the incident, but a source from the station confirmed the arrest of the security man. P.M.News also visited the deceased's residence, at 17, Adegboyega Street, Akesan, and learnt that his wife, Bilikisu, had moved to her family house.

At the family house, however, she told P.M.News she was yet to come to reality that she had lost her husband, while suspecting a foul play. The deceased's uncle, Saidu Ibrahim, expressed shock over his brother's death which he suspected was masterminded by some people. He called on the police to do a thorough investigation of the killing and bring the culprits to book. He described the deceased as a trusted fellow that would be missed by the family.

Meanwhile, Danjuma's body is still at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary and no date has been fixed for his burial at his home town in Kogi state.
