Ikoyi Residents Get Ultimatum

Residents of Victoria Island, Ikoyi and its environs have been given a 48-hour ultimatum, by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), to pay all outstanding fees or face the full wrath of the law.

Residents of Victoria Island, Ikoyi and its environs have been given a 48-hour ultimatum, by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), to pay all outstanding fees or face the full wrath of the law.

The warning came after the agency discovered that some residents were owing the agency huge money. Commenting on the ultimatum, the Public Relations Officer of LAWMA, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, said the agency has done all it could to make the residents pay for the services rendered to them but they appeared uncooperative.

She disclosed that the Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya, recently embarked on a door-to-door campaign with staff, to sensitise the residents on the need to settle their debts.

'We do not intend to apply force in recovering our money but we have tried to persuade them to pay but all to no avail. We have issued them a 48-hour ultimatum which will lapse today. If they fail to respond positively, we will be forced to enforce the law,' Mrs. Kadiri.

Mrs. Kadiri also advised residents to stop patronising cart pushers who have been outlawed by the state government. LAWMA also appealed to all PSP operators to remove all faulty vehicles from the roads to avoid such trucks from being impounded by the agency.

The agency appealed to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to enlighten their members on the need to obey traffic signs.
