The Lagos State Police Command has banned the use of fireworks by citizens during the forthcoming Ileya, Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The police have vowed to arrest anybody found selling or throwing any form of fireworks such as ‘knockout,' ‘banger' and others.
The Police Community Relations Committees (PCRC) of the various local governments and LCDAs have written letters to all community development associations (CDAs) and landlord associations to warn residents that the law against fireworks was still in force.
In a letter signed by the PCRC Secretary, Oke-Odo Police Division, Mr. Yinka Akinjomi, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the same division, Mr. Stephen Igbasanmi, it was stressed that 'the police have been making announcements on both the radio and television, warning citizens to desist from the use of fireworks during the forthcoming Ileya, Christmas and New Year festivities.
'Anybody caught selling or throwing any form of fireworks will be arrested and prosecuted. You are advised to warn your wards accordingly,' it stated.
