Although the late African Kennery exponent, Dr. Orlando Owoh, reportedly died at the General Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, P.M.News can reveal that the veteran highlife musician was clinically dead before he was taken to the hospital.

It was learnt that when Orlando's health deteriorated about four months ago, he was taken to the General Hospital Annexe, in Ile Epo area of Agege, where he was confined to his bed.

The late highlife maestro's condition worsened on Monday, when he slipped into a coma, which raised speculations that he had died.

He, however, died at about 8 p.m., on Tuesday, at the General Hospital Annexe, before he was taken to Ikeja, where doctors certified him dead. His remains were later deposited at the hospital morgue for embalmment, pending burial arrangements by the family.

Before his death, the late Orlando Owoh was said to have been married to seven wives, but three of them died before him. He is survived by several children and an aged mother. Meanwhile, condolence messages have been pouring in for the late musician.

President of PMAN, Admiral Dele Abiodun, described him as a man of honour and one of the most successful band leaders in Nigeria, who took the music industry by storm for decades. 'His departure has created a vacuum in the highlife music scene which will take years to fill,' remarked Abiodun.

Binta Ayo Mogaji, a movie actress who spoke from London, said Orlando was a great man. 'His brand of music is unique, we will miss him,' she said.
