The Lagos state government has suspended three principals and two head teachers, indefinitely, for collecting illegal fees from pupils and selling free textbooks donated to pupils by the government.

The Lagos state government has suspended three principals and two head teachers, indefinitely, for collecting illegal fees from pupils and selling free textbooks donated to pupils by the government.

The affected secondary schools, whose principals have been suspended, are Ijaiye-Ojokoro Junior Secondary School, Coker Secondary School, Orile, and Model College, Igbonla. The affected primary schools are Jimoh Ojora Primary School, Ajeromi, and Aiyetoro Primary School, Akoka.

According to the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Sosan, the affected principals and head teachers are to proceed on indefinite suspension.

She said the affected principals and head teachers would face the Personnel Management Board, a disciplinary board, to determine their fate. Sosan called on parents and guardians to report immediately to the state government any principal or head teacher demanding for any form of levy or fees from their wards not stipulated by the government.

Two teachers were also suspended by the state government, two weeks ago, for collecting illegal fees from students. Sosan had warned that the state government was ready to deal with any principal and head teacher who violated its laws.

On Monday, governor Babatunde Fashola also warned principals and head teachers not to collect money from pupils and students before giving them the free textbooks donated by the government. He said government spent over N2 billion to procure the books.
