Former Nigeria international defender Ifeanyi Udeze has filed divorce papers against his wife, Ifeoma, saying he plans to now stage a comeback to the game and so needs a clean break from the past.
"I have divorced my wife because she is a kill-joy. She did not support me when I was down and I needed her most," Udeze told goal website.
"She was my childhood love and we've been married since 1997. But I don't love her anymore, I'm tired of her."
He added: "I'm determined to now leave all my troubles behind me and face my career. By January I will be back playing again because I am over my most trying period."
Udeze's 11-year-old marriage was blessed with two children.
Udeze, 28, made his full international debut in 2001 but quit international football in 2005 after the 1-1 draw with Angola in Kano which handed the Angolans an advantage in the qualification race for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
He has featured for several European clubs including West Bromwich Albion.
In January 2007 he was released by Greek club AEK Athens and returned to PAOK in July but again failed to tie down a place in the first team due to a niggling knee injury.
