The design for the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge is ready, a top aide of governor Babatunde Fashola has disclosed.
The design for the bridge, according to the governor's aide who preferred anonymity, would be presented at the state executive council meeting, very soon.
Governor Fashola had disclosed that the Fourth Mainland bridge would gulp over N400 billion, saying that the project was realisable. The Fourth Mainland bridge is expected to be built under the Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) scheme of the state government.
Foreign investors are expected to invest their money in building the bridge, operate it for certain number of years in order to recoup their money before handing it over to the state government for management.
Commissioner for Transportation, Prof. Bamidele Badejo, said the Fourth Mainland bridge would be a gigantic project that would enhance the status of Lagos as a mega city. It is expected that the state government would unveil its masterplan for the bridge very soon.
The vision of the Fourth Mainland bridge was mooted by the former governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, which is now passed on to Fashola for the realisation of the vision. The Fourth Mainland bridge is one of the foremost projects the state government is pursuing. One of such projects is the expansion of the Badagry Expressway from four lanes to 10 lanes.
According to Fashola, the design for the expressway, which is now ready, cost N80 million while the project itself would gulp over N200 billion. The Federal Government is collaborating with the Lagos State Government to expand the road and curb the perennial traffic jam on it.
