Two persons were feared dead while several others were injured when butchers and members of the Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, clashed, this morning.

According to P.M.News checks, trouble started when the Igbehin-Adun faction, which is the ruling faction, was overthrown by another group of butchers, which called itself the Human Rights faction. The Human Rights group was able to achieve the feat through the help of the police. But when the police left, the defeated faction came back and attacked the new rulers.

The Igbehin-Adun group came back with their leader called ‘Asoro,' who is also the OPC coordinator in the area. They came with guns and cutlasses and other dangerous weapons and attacked the human rights group. In the process, two persons were shot dead while many others suffered injuries.

The fracas which spread to other areas saw market women hurriedly closing up their shops and residents locking up their doors. However, about 60 heavily armed mobile policemen are already on ground to maintain peace. Mewanwhile, three armed robbery suspects who operated on a motorcycle (okada) have been arrested and guns recovered from them after a shoot-out with policemen. The suspects were shot when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the Alakuko Division responded to a distress call.

On sighting the policemen at the scene of their operation, the gangsters opened fire on the cops who engaged them in a gun duel. In the course of the shooting the robberry suspects were injured and subsequently arrested. The suspects gave their names as Oreoluwa Omolayo, 23; Solomon Uche, 22; and Lanre Amina, 19.

Items recovered from them include two locally made pistols, ammunition and two mobile phones snatched from their victims. When P.M.News visited the Alakuko Police Station, the Divisional Police Office, CSP Oluyemi Olatomokun, was said to have gone to Area ‘G' Command, Ogba. In another incident, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad from Ojo Police Station, acting on a tip-off, arrested Benjamin Ebijimi with a locally made pistol and one round of live ammunition in Alaba area of Ojo.

However, three of these suspected accomplices escaped while Ebijimi is helping the police in their investigation. The Lagos State Police Command's spokesman, Superintendent Frank Mba, confirmed both incidents. He said the cases have been transferred to State CID, Panti, Yaba.
