A 26-year-old trader has been clubbed to death over N20. The victim, identified as Austin Oriabor, from Edo state, was allegedly murdered in Ajangbadi, Ojo Local Government, Lagos state, by a mallam.

Austin, a foodstuff seller at White House Bus Stop, Ajangbadi, was alleged to have been killed by Umoru Adamu, a load carrier, who was hired to deliver goods to the trader's customer. P.M.News gathered that Austin returned from a business trip and directed Umoru to deliver one bag of garri to his customer in the area.

Trouble started when Austin paid the suspect N30. Instead of collecting the money, the mallam demanded N50, which Austin refused to pay. An argument ensued between them and this allegedly resulted in Umoru picking a plank with nail and hitting Austin on the head with it.

Sources at the scene of the incident said the trader collapsed immediately and became unconscious and was rushed to Sabo clinic, nearby. From there, he was transferred to Ikeja General Hospital, where he later died. Umoru was arrested by the police and charged to Ojo Magistrate's court for assault, before the victim died in the hospital.
P.M.News gathered, this morning, that because of the death of the victim, the court has fixed 28 October, 2008, to substitute the charge against the suspect.

The brother of the deceased, Donatus, described him as a promising person who everybody in the the family looked up to, to change their fortunes, but his death has shattered their future. He added that Austin's body was still at the Ikeja General Hospital since no date has been fixed for his burial in their home town.
