For making an attempt to steal NITEL cables, along Eric Moore Road, Surulere, Lagos, on 15 October, 2008, Uzoma Duru, 21, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Surulere Chief Magistrate's Court.
For making an attempt to steal NITEL cables, along Eric Moore Road, Surulere, Lagos, on 15 October, 2008, Uzoma Duru, 21, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Surulere Chief Magistrate's Court.
Uzoma was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit felony, to wit, stealing with others at large, an offence punishable under Sections 516 and 509 of the Criminal Code, Cap.C17, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
In her judgement, the magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, stated that the penalty for the offence was seven-year imprisonment, but because the accused pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him, she decided to be lenient to him.
She sent the accused to a three-year jail term on each count charge with hard labour and without option of fine. The sentence is to run concurrently.
