Olaide Amos, a resident of Tunde Davis Street, New Oko-Oba, Lagos, has accused his wife, Tope Amaro, of witchcraft, stealing and plotting to terminate his life.
Giving evidence at an Agege Grade ‘A' Customary Court, Lagos, where he filed a petition to divorce his wife, the petitioner prayed the court to dissolve his two-year-old union with his wife because he has no confidence in the marriage again.
The petitioner based his fears on his claims that his wife, who bore him two children, is stubborn, discourteous, a thief and after his life.
'The last time I slept in our house was when my wife seduced me to have sexual intercourse with her. That day, I had already prepared and laid on my bed, believing that it was the same woman I was married to.
'But I stopped immediately I noticed some strange marks that looked like incisions all over her body. Thank God I noticed the marks as soon as she undressed and quickly zipped up my trousers.
'I did not wait to wear my shirt before running into the street. I was afraid, I couldn't believe what I saw. I guess she wanted me dead,' the petitioner alleged.
Amao, a driver with a private firm, added that his wife also attempted to stab him with a broken bottle and accused her of making trouble with him.
'I made up my mind to call it quit with the marriage when she started dipping her hands in my pocket and bag to steal from me. Apart from all I have said earlier, the worst I suffered in her hands was when she stole my N40,000.
'Since that day, I lost interest in the marriage. I don't want to have anything to do with her again,' the petitoner told the court.
He asked the court to dissolve the marriage and grant him custody of the first child, adding that the second child can remain with her. He pledged to pay N2,000 monthly for his upkeep as well as being responsible for his education and other expenses. The respondent was not in court to defend herself on the allegations levelled against her and the matter was adjourned for her to come and testify before the court.
