The timely intervention of passers-by and members of the Oodua People's Congress (OPC) has foiled a woman's attempt to kidnap four pupils of a nursery/primary school in Alagbado, Lagos.
The woman who pretended to be insane, it was gathered, was accosted at Nureni Yusuf Bus Stop on Kolington-Agbado crossing area where she attempted to kidnap the children Wednesday.
A resident of the area, Mr. Wale Balogun, told P.M.News that but for the quick intervention of passersby and some OPC members, the woman, whose identity could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, would have succeeded in kidnapping the children.
'She was apprehended, beaten, stripped and almost lynched by the irate mob,' Balogun narrated.
He explained further that a member of OPC in the crowd prevented her escape, claiming that she was pretending to be insane because the kidnap attempt failed.
When P.M.News called at the Alakuko Police Station where the suspect is being held, parents of the pupils who had been alerted were seen at the station trying to collect their children.
The investigating police officer, an Inspector, confirmed the arrest of the woman but declined to speak on the matter.
He directed P.M.News team to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Frank Mba.
Efforts to speak with the police spokesman proved abortive.
