419 Spiritualist Jailed 20 Years

A fraudulent spiritualist and his accomplice have been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour by Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of the Ikeja High Court.

A fraudulent spiritualist and his accomplice have been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour by Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of the Ikeja High Court.

The accused, Akeem Opeewe and Olatunji Abolanle, were jailed by Justice Oyewole for obtaining money under false pretence.

P.M.News gathered that the spiritualist and members of his gang, who made quick money through deceitful means of money doubling, were arrested and charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

They were arraigned on a 10-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing. Nemesis caught up with them when an aggrieved complainant reported their fraudulent activities to the EFCC.

Their first victim was a lady who was having trouble with her marriage as a result of her husband's alleged extra marital affairs. P.M.News gathered that the lady consulted the spiritualist who assured her that her husband would return to her as soon as some sacrifices were performed.

Coincidentally, her husband came back home and she was impressed with the potency of the herbalist's power. Buoyed by this, she introduced the herbalist to her friends, among whom was a lady who needed spiritual assistance and quick money.

The lady was made to believe that she could become instantly rich if she produces N500,000. Her friend assured her that he (the spiritualist) would use juju invocation and make the money reproduce itself everyday for 11 consecutive days.

She had parted with N159,000 for several purposes, which include fees for sacrifice, spiritual bath, acceptance prayers by elders and sacrifice to three so-called witches allegedly invoked by the gang, before it dawned on her that she had been duped.

On realising this, she reported the matter to the EFCC which arrested the fraudster and his accomplice. The accused were charged to court and they pleaded guilty to all the charges brought against them. Justice Oyewole had no option but to sentence them to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour.
