Speaking with Mr. T.O. Kehinde, a Nigeria Prisons Service officer at the Ikoyi Prison, the American Embassy official said Regina Johnson is not an American citizen.
The 22-year-old Regina Johnson has, however, been dragged to Tapa Magistrate's court, sitting before Miss Ope Agose, by the Commissioner of Police, on a two-count charge.
The charge stated that the suspect, 'on 21 September, along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, did present yourself as an American citizen by presenting an American Traveler's Identification card worldwide, a USA International FBI identification card, pass/permit to the Washington DC America, a driver's licence and an Ebony TV and magazine identification cards, with an intent that it may be acted upon as genuine'.
The police alleged that Johnson committed the offence, punishable under Section 465 of the Criminal Code Cap 17, Volume 2, Laws of Lagos state. Johnson pleaded not guilty to the two charges and she is being detained at the Ikoyi prison.
Johnson's travails started last week, when she was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, and consequently charged with the two offences.
However, at the Ikoyi prison, Johnson denied the allegations. She told P.M.News that: 'The real fact of the matter is that I'm a hermaphrodite born 22 years ago in the city of Florida, United States of America. Of the two organs, the female organ functions better than the male.
'I am the last child of the Johnson family. My mother, Queen Sunita Johnson, was the Queen of Mombasa. My elder brother is Don Johnson, a popular wrestler with WBA. I have two kids, Benjamin and Benita Williams. My husband died three years ago in a motor accident in Florida, USA.'
Benita Johnson further explained: 'I came on the invitation of my boyfriend, Lt. Colonel Ajayi, purely on a modeling business. We have had so many sexual relationships even though he knows that I'm bisexual. Everything, as I see it, is a set-up'.
But the police and the Nigeria Prisons Authority medical reports state that, the suspect, Regina Johnson, is male.
