Gunmen Kidnap Timber Merchant


Unidentified gunmen, yesterday, stormed Okwele waterside in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers state , shooting sporadically before abducting Mr.Job Obire, the chairman of Timber Marketers Association,Timber Shade, Diobu, and another timber dealer.

A source who witnessed the incident said the gunmen anchored their speedboat at the beach with a getaway driver on standby, while the other members of the gang went into operation by shooting sporadically into the air to scare people.

As the people scampered for safety, those who were not so lucky were robbed of their valuables like money, handsets and jewelery.

Mrs. Inoma Abbey, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Rivers state police command, confirmed the incident and said that the identities of the gunmen are yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the kidnap of Obire and another trader happened barely few hours after the Rivers state police command successfully rescued Mrs. Enemi Eremie and her two children who were abducted a few days ago.

It was also gathered that the woman and her two children were rescued in a hideout located at a community called Ojimba, in Okrika local government area of Rivers state.

Two of the suspected kidnappers were arrested. P.M.News learnt that Mrs Eremie is the daughter-in-law of Chief Alaye Eremie, the former Commissioner for Employment Generation, in the administration of former governor Peter Odili.
