9ice Wins MOBO Award


Hip-hop rave of the moment, Abolore Adigun, a.k.a. 9ice, has emerged winner of the Best African Act category at the 13th annual Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards, held at Wembley Arena, London, last night.

Hosted by former Spice Girl, Mel B and hip-hop legend, Reverend Run of the Run DMC fame, the ceremony was a star-studded event, featuring musical performances from John Legend, Estelle, Flo Rida, Jay Sean, Taro Crux and Sugababes.

9ice, P.M.News learnt, was declared winner of the competitive Best African Act category of the awards, having beaten other talented artistes including Asa, D'banj, Mo Hits All Stars, Jozi and P-Square, at the polls, in which fans of the music icons picked their choice.

Abiola Abdulkareem, a London-based Nigerian who attended the ceremony, told P.M.News that 9ice was the cynosure of all eyes at the event last night. According to her, '9ice's outfit to the event truly represented Nigeria. I am sure his heart beat faster than usual when he was named winner of the award on the Wembley Arena stage.

His fans logged on to the internet to post their congratulatory messages. His wife, Oluwaseun Toni Payne-Akande, who had drummed up support for her husband on her world wide web page, was overjoyed.

'I knew you will make it. I am proud of you, darling,' she stated. London-based publisher and motivational speaker, Dayo Olomu; Adeyemo Oladipo Oladeinde; Kay Olorunmi and Omotola Sode were also among fans of the Ogbomosho, Oyo state, crooner, who first congratulated him on the internet a few minutes after he was declared winner of the award.

Apart from the Best African Act award category won by 9ice, other competitive categories of this year's awards included Best Hip-hop Act, Best International Artiste, Best Song, Best Album and Best Video, among others. Another Nigerian who had clinched the Best African Act in a past edition of the award is Tuface.
